This lesson shows you how to use the special word よう to show purpose, effort or change.

Structures

  • [predicate]よう…

    A plain form adjective or verb. or a noun + の followed by the na-adjective よう functions as a な adjective meaning “similar to what is described by the predicate”.

  • [Noun] とか

    とか functions similarly to や (and) in that it joins examples to form a non-exclusive list. The difference is that とか is colloquial and would not normally be seen in written text. やきそばとか、たこやきとか食べた。I ate yakisoba and takoyaki and stuff.

  • みんなが分かるようにゆっくり話してください

    ーようにー can be used show when something is done to achieve an aim.
